All the Self Help Books in the World Can’t Help You
Why so many personal development tools fail to produce results
Spoiler alert..its not the books!
Client: I’ve tried everything, but nothing is working!!
Me: So tell me about what you’ve tried so far.
Client: Well, I’ve started following some really amazing content creators, and I have a lot of ideas ready to go…
Me: Have you implemented any of the ideas yet? Have you set up your (website, blog, IG account, podcast platform)?
Client: I’m not quite ready to do that yet…
This is the time of year that many of us, myself included, turn to making positive changes in our lives.
We buy books, join wellness communities, subscribe to programs all designed to “fix” what we feel is not right in our lives.
Just like purchasing a gym membership will not improve your health if you don’t get your ass there to do the work, a book on decluttering your home won’t bring you a simplified lifestyle if you don’t get rid of some stuff and organize the rest.
🥘 Reading recipe books does not make you a chef. Preparing the recipes and practicing them will.
📝 Following writers who teach how to become a better writer will not make you a better writer. Writing (even badly) will build that skill.
🎤 Buying a microphone and camera and watching YouTube videos will not make you a podcaster. Recording episodes and getting on camera (or audio) will give you the practice to become better (and build an audience).
A self help tool of any kind will not change your life if you don’t actually apply the ideas and use them in your daily life.
You have to DO THE THINGS!
What’s your current goal… and what have you done so far to make it happen?
Or… what are you holding back on?
