Life Was Exciting…Until It Wasn’t. What Happened?
When did you lose yourself?
It’s 1977 and my legs are burning as I struggle up the hill towards home. I’ve spent the entire day, riding my bike all over the city.
No cell phone, no bike helmet, no curfew.
Remember the days?
As long as we were home by dinner, nothing else mattered.
We biked from the beach, through Golden Gate Park, often stopping at the duck pond to watch the old men with their motorized model boats. Next would be a visit to see the bison at the Buffalo Paddock. From there we might hit the rope swing at the giant tree. Launching from a large tree root holding the rope, the rope carried us to the middle of the sky where we’d let go and fly to the bottom of the sandy hill, landing (hopefully) in a not so graceful roll. It’s a miracle we never got hurt!
Remember summers as a kid?
The excitement and the anticipation of all the possibilities open to you over the next 10 weeks was intoxicating!
Somewhere along the way, we lost that inspiration of what life could be.
How it started for me.
After high-school, I turned down the opportunity to attend college and instead, traveled around the country for three years.
Life was still exciting, and I wanted to experience ALL of it. My Human Design is about having all the experiences, making mistakes trying things out, and finding my way through it.
Eventually, I grew up.
I got a reliable job.
I found a permanent residence.
I settled down and raised a family.
And along the way, I lost myself.
Living a life catering to everyone else was expected and even praised. I was required to be what everyone needed me to be: mom, wife, income producer, community volunteer.
What I wasn’t praised for was just being me.
Finally, I learned better.
After years of soul searching, studying a myriad of self-help courses, and trying to figure out why I couldn’t “do life right”, I realized that I could be me.
I could follow my heart.
I could say no.
I started to schedule activities for myself.
I stopped allowing others to make big decisions for me.
Life got so much richer, and as a bonus, I became a better example for my children.
“Doing life right” isn’t about following other people’s rules, but finding your own path. When Human Design showed up in my life, the “how” became so much clearer because it gave me clues to how my life could be if I lived it on my terms.
Coming Soon!
I’m going back to the roots of my first book, Finding Balance, Finding Truth with a new 3-day event designed to bring you clarity about how stress shows up in your life and how to find freedom from the burnout and overwhelm caused by trying to be everything to everyone.
When you’re ready to experience the excitement and possibilities open to you like you did as a kid and learn how you’re designed to love your life, I invite you to join me!
I felt this deeply. There’s something sacred about the moment you begin to choose yourself...when your healing no longer waits for permission. That quiet but powerful shift has shaped so much of my own journey too. I explore these themes in my writing as well. it’s always beautiful to find others walking a similar path.
