There was a time when when we all lived in tune with the seasons. There was no beginning or end, just an ongoing cycle where one season blended into the next, each turn of the season preparing us for the next stage.
From Litha/Summer Solstice (June 21) to Lugnasadh (August 2) we move from Midsummer to preparation for the First Harvest.
In the old tradition, and even in some rural areas today, the children are out of school and ready to assist with the harvest. What will be ready first? Summer fruits and vegetables are ripening almost faster than they can be picked.
Are you starting to see a renewed advancement in a new skill you started earlier this year? If you've been looking for a new job, are the resumes starting to produce inquiries from companies ready to hire?
What is flourishing for you, and are you getting ready to harvest? What are you ready and willing to allow into your life?
Maybe a seed was planted that you didn't realize was in the mix earlier in the year. Will you harvest this new fruit and enjoy it anyway? Or will you let it die off because it "wasn't in the plan"?
Litha is about embracing both the light and darkness… it is the time of equal day and night. While our light has been growing since Yule (December 21), now we are at equal time and after today will be growing darker, ever so slowly.
This isn’t a sad time. We embrace the dark in order to appreciate the light. But we don’t have to go there just yet. The darkness is coming, but for today, enjoy the light that has come into your life over the past 6 months.
You’ve planted, tended, and brought light to new ideas, skills, or activities in your life. Enjoy the light that these new parts of your life are bringing and get ready to begin harvesting the fruits of your labors!
Often we find it difficult to just slow down and enjoy the light. Acknowledge what’s good in our lives and enjoy it. For many, summer is a time of slowing down. We slow down, but we don’t want to stop. We can keep the momentum going (for whatever it is that we “planted” earlier in the year) just at a more relaxed pace. We’ve gotten into a groove and need to keep it up for the harvest yet to come.
✨Share what you’ve planted earlier this year and how your upcoming harvest is looking and feeling.✨
Stay tuned for the next turn of the season at Lugnasadh (Lammas) on August 2 to see how the cycle continues into The First Harvest.
Living with the seasons is also living intuitively. It’s following the inner voices and the outer shifts, looking and listening for signs that point us in the right direction.
