Living the Dream… But is it yours, or someone else’s?
Are you living according to your design, or are you following others trying to replicate their actions and hoping to replicate their successes?
There are so many influences (and influencers) out there telling us how to live our lives. They tell us the best business to start, the best way lose weight, and the best way to build our relationships.
Each one claims it’s the “best” way. And for some, it may be the best. But there’s no one-size-fits-all method or model for anything in life.
Trying to mirror yourself after someone else’s vision can make your life look distorted.
It’s like living in a Funhouse Hall of Mirrors… remember those from old time carnivals? They have all the crazy mirrors that distort everything. You look in one mirror, and while you can tell it’s you, it’s a taller you. Or you look in another and it’s a wider you, or a wavy you
.
When we try to live our lives compared to someone else, our life might look too tall or too wide, too messy or too high strung.
So how do you know if a particular program or business or method is right for you? And how do you use this information to create your perfect life?
There are three keys I use to help clients hone in on what their authentic path in this world looks like:
Learn how you operate in the world (your energy type)
Discover your process for making the best decisions (your authority and strategy)
Understand your gifts, superpowers (your profile)
The Human Design system is a great tool for understanding these three keys to your energy and life path.
1 - Learn how you operate in the world, the type of energy do you bring to the table. (your energy type)
Let’s say you’re an “idea person” (a Manifestor energy type in your HD chart). You get these amazing downloads of great ideas, you can get them started, but then you tend to fizzle out so they don’t take off and get completed. Knowing this about yourself tells you that having a high energy person (like a Generator) on board who supports your ideas can help you bring your ideas to completion.
Maybe you have a gift for problem solving (a Projector energy type). You are often the go-to person for problem solving, but if you try to give unsolicited advice, sometimes it’s turned down. You feel bitter because you can see the answer plain as day, so why won’t they listen to you? Understanding that you have a gift of knowledge, but that not everyone is open to it will help you be more aware of those who do need your gift and are looking for your help. In business, these are your customers and clients so focus on them.
2 - Discover your process for making decisions (your authority and strategy)
Our society is geared toward telling people to “just do it”, but not everyone can make good, sound decisions that way.
While there are some who are designed to “follow their gut” (Sacral or Splenic authority in Human Design) and can make quick, and correct, decisions because they instantly feel it’s the right thing to do, there are others who need to take time.
For those with Emotional authority, (I’m one of those) we need to wait until we are in a neutral emotional space to respond clearly to a decision. A high state of emotion, or low state of emotion can greatly influence our decision making… and not always in a good way!
Also, going back to the energy types discussed earlier, each “type” (Manifestors, Generators, Projectors, and Reflectors) has a strategy for making things happen.
When Manifestors, the idea people, use their strategy of “informing”, they are able to attract the higher energy Generators to help bring their ideas to fruition even after their own personal energy wanes.
And the Generators, who have the strategy to “respond”, need to wait for the ideas that light them up, and these ideas will often come from Manifestors.
3 - Understand your gifts, your superpowers (your profile)
There are 6 profile lines in Human Design, and each person has two, that combine to make up your profile. These are the gifts you bring to others throughout your life, regardless of your career or other chosen paths.
Knowing your profile will often explain why you’ve made certain choices along the way and how you can continue to live as your most authentic self.
For example, let’s say you have a 4 in your profile. Your small network of close friends and colleagues is one of your greatest assets. This is your “tribe” and networking is your foundation.
Or maybe you have a 1, which shows that you will tend to research or investigate thoroughly before jumping in to something. You will take the time to fully understand something before allowing it into your life.
There are 12 profile combinations, so your two numbers matched up will show how you tend to act on your energy type both consciously and unconsciously.
Each of these pieces of your Human Design are just parts of the whole. How they work together is what makes you uniquely you. And when you learn to tap into this knowledge and understand how and why you feel or act in certain ways, and how that benefits yourself and others, you can begin to step into your most authentic life, doing what is truly right for you!
You will be able to discern whether the influencers and current fads are really the best options for your path or if they would only create a distorted version of yourself.
