There was a time when when we all lived in tune with the seasons.  There was no beginning or end, just an ongoing cycle where one season blended into the next, each preparing us for the next stage.
Mabon (September 21) to Samhain (October 31) is a time to prepare for the darkness.  The equal night is passing on the second harvest of Mabon and the last of the harvest will be ready put up at Samhain.  The fruits of this year's garden are being preserved for the dark winter nights.  Each meal will be celebrated as we are thankful that we persevered all year.
How will you celebrate your accomplishments of the year?  As the cycle winds down, we can look back at the seasons and see what has grown in our lives. What have we developed this year during the growing seasons?
At Mabon we are also back to the time of equal light and darkness.  Twice a year we see this balance.  It’s a nice reminder to look at the balance (or imbalance) within ourselves.
What is feeling out of sorts for you right now? Where are you feeling out of balance, and how might you regain that balance?
We often think of balance as all sides being equal, but in reality, life balance is a constant movement. We move from one side to the other, sometimes feeling centered, but more often it’s a game of give and take. We flex and adjust.
Sometimes we need to go into the shadows of ourselves, into the dark, in order to find the light within us. The dark season is coming. Now is the time to prepare for that. Now is the time to find our balance so we can be prepared for going into the darkness. Use the tools you are most comfortable with - meditation, mindfulness, walks in nature, prayer - and get yourself in balance.
Stay tuned for the next turn of the season at Samhain on October 31 to see how the cycle continues into The Dark Season.
Living with the seasons is also living intuitively. It’s following the inner voices and the outer shifts, looking and listening for signs that point us in the right direction.
