In the past, I have written much along the lines of “it’s ok not to be perfect”, “just fake it til you make it”, and “there is no perfect”. Looking back, I see how much of this paved the way for excuses. Excuses to not do your best. The underlying message was that nobody’s perfect, so I don’t have to try harder.
But I have realized something different.
What is perfection?
Is it the photoshopped, filtered, artificial image? Is it a prescribed definition of the perfect career paired with the perfect family?
Who decides what perfection is?
Are you perfect if you match someone else's ideal? What about your own ideal?
Perfection is subjective. It’s an opinion. This is why we feel we can’t achieve perfection. We’re reaching for something that is fluid and changing.
However…
There is another way of looking at perfection.
It’s not something we strive for, but it’s something we already are.
By being true to your boundaries, your needs, your skills and gifts, you are becoming perfectly you.
It’s when you try to be what others want you to be or what others say you should be, that you lose your perfection.
How to be perfect in life:
Appreciate all of who you are, warts and all. You are perfectly you in this moment. You can always strive to be a better you, as long as it’s YOU you’re striving towards and not someone else’s idea of you.
Accept that you are where you are due to the choices you made, and you can make new choices. Make the choices that enhance who you are and don’t hide your true essence.
Understand that every human being is different. Trying to be someone else is like trying to fit a puzzle piece into the wrong space. If you feel like you don’t “fit”, either you’re trying to fit your piece into someone else’s space or you’ve changed the shape of your piece so that it no longer fits in the space designed for you. (BTW, your shape hasn’t really changed, just your perception of it. You’re still you.)
Embrace your natural gifts and skills and build your life to bring them to the forefront…even if they don’t fit society’s expectations. You are not here to meet others’ expectations.
And, to make these previous 4 easier, learn about your Human Design! Human Design is your energetic blueprint for life, and yours is different from everyone else’s! It’s your map showing you the possibilities that could be. It doesn’t tell you who you are, but helps you see how to find and embrace your gifts, your superpowers.
Only you can live in your design.
