You Are Not That!
On labels, and breaking out of the boxes we put ourselves in.
I wrote last week about my journey with self doubt and learning to accept all of my physical self. Honestly, I sometimes find it easier to accept my shadows than what’s in the mirror!
Discovering who you are, is not only about learning to accept who and what you are, but even more it’s about bringing your magnificence into the world.
We’ve learned to declare our labels as who we are (INTJ, Reformer, Sanguin, Conscientious, Projector), but we are not the labels.
We do not live in boxes.
What’s missing when we rely on labels, is what that label means to our everyday life. They put us in boxes, but don’t tell us what to do once we get there. There’s no roadmap inside the boxes.
A map is not a destination. A map shows us what is there, and then we get to decide:
where to go,
how to get there,
what to see along the way,
and… where to go next!
You may see a map of the world and choose to explore a 100 mile radius of your current location. You may choose to explore every shop, walk every footpath, and meet every person in that 100 mile radius.
You may see that same map of the world and choose to explore all of it, by plane, train, and automobile. And while you may miss some of the details, you choose to experience a wide variety of sights and sounds.
Human Design is the map, the guide and handbook for your life.
You may look at your human design chart and choose to focus on your open Identity and Will centers and how they play out in your life. You may choose to explore what it means to be in response as a generator type. You may choose to dive deep into every center, gate, and channel to understand and apply as much of your design as you possibly can to live fully in your design.
It’s up to you!
Being a 6/2 emotional manifesting generator with the left angle cross of prevention does not put me in a box. These attributes are tools for me to use to share all of my own brilliance with the world in the most effective way, in a way that nobody else can!
When I wrote last week about having Gate 63 - the gate of doubt - in a significant place of my design, it wasn’t to say I am bound to live a life of doubt and suspicion. It’s a guide to show me how I might shift the conditioning and use that doubt as a positive force in my life, as curiosity and inquiry.
It’s another tool (in a very large toolbox) to help me use my mind to gather information (I tend to question everything, like a toddler constantly asking “but why?”) and not get caught up in the downward spiral of overthinking (a trap I have fallen into, especially in relationships). I’m learning to look at information as simply “facts” without building a story around them.
What labels have you found yourself stuck with? What have you done to use those labels and what they mean to change your thinking?
Coming in January! Human Design Gate studies.
Each post* will be one gate chosen at random. We’ll talk about its general meaning, and for paid subscribers we’ll dive deeper and look at it from the perspective of the Gene Keys, the I Ching, and if it’s in your chart, how you might implement its teachings in the coming week.
*Frequency is to be determined… possibly weekly or every other. Your thoughts?
Paid subscribers also have access to all the archives, so no matter when you decide to jump in, you’ll be able to go back and see all of the previous discussions!
