You’re Not Just A Pile of Pieces
When do we dump a pile of puzzle pieces on the table and say “Voila! It is complete.”?
Hello my Soul’s Journey family!
I’ve recently heard from a few readers and new clients who want to know how to apply a specific piece of their chart to their lives. They want to know what a certain gate or channel means for them as they set goals or change jobs or begin relationships. Here’s what I tell them, “We need to look at all the pieces of your chart as they fit together and create your whole design, AND we need to see how your design reveals how you follow your chosen path rather than what path to follow.
Let’s chat today about how you are greater then your individual parts.

So here’s the deal, I get that we are a society of shortcuts, quick fixes, and instant gratification, but when it comes to Human Design, we are not just a bunch of puzzle pieces to quickly unscramble.
If you dump the pieces of a jigsaw puzzle on the table and pick up a blue colored piece, would you say “What a beautiful picture of the sky this is” or “That is a gorgeous picture of the ocean”? If you picked up a green colored piece would you automatically think “What a brilliant and healthy lawn or leaf”?
Consider those same blue or green pieces when the entire puzzle is looked at as a whole and complete:
Look at all the beauty and diversity we missed by focusing on just one or two pieces of the puzzle.
This is how Human Design works. You are not just pieces of a chart. Your chart doesn’t tell you who you are or what you need to do with your life.
Your Human Design chart is like a users guide for how you can experience your life.
Just as many of us don’t read the user’s guides that come with our home appliances or electronics, they still work just fine. We might not get the most out of them because we haven’t read about the tips and best use recommendations, but we get by. Our washing machine still washes clothes and our phone makes calls and takes pictures just fine.
We can live perfectly fulfilling lives without Human Design.
Yes, I said it.
When I found out I had sleep settings on my phone so notifications didn’t make noise during certain hours, it was a minor setting that didn’t affect the greater use of my phone, but it made a significant difference in my day to day activities. And I realized I could put my phone on silent, but if certain important people called, they could override the silent setting. Was my life unfulfilled by not using these settings? No. But when I found them, it did make parts of my life more productive.
Knowing about these options was one thing, but understanding how I could apply them in my daily life was a game changer. These are settings that many phones have. If we read the manual or investigate a little, we can find them. But how we each use these settings is the key.
This is how Human Design works. It gives us basic guides (types, authorities, centers, profiles, gates) which many people share. Heck, about 70% of the population are generator types (Generators and Manifesting Generators) and about 50% of the population have emotional authority. About 40% have a defined Will center. Does that mean everyone with these attributes act alike or have similar personalities?
Absolutely not!
Just as we all may have sleep settings on our phones doesn’t mean we use them in the same way. Your chart attributes are tools to show you how you can offer your gifts to the world. Your gifts are unique to you and Human Design helps you find your own way of living out your gifts and living in integrity with them.
So, my primary point in all of this is not to get too caught up in a particular piece of your design chart. You are much more than these individual pieces. How they all work together and more importantly, how you apply them, are what make you the most amazing human being you can be.
What has been your experience with exploring your Human Design? Have you encountered any ah-ha! moments or moments where you just scratched you head and said huh?
I look forward to your thoughts and comments on this topic!
Human Design is about moving into alignment with who you’re not and remembering who you are at your essence. When you remember who you are and how you are designed to operate in the world, decisions come more easily and life opens up to you, revealing the opportunities you may have overlooked.
