Hello fellow adventurers! I have a question for you today…
Would you wake up in the morning and pick up a half-full cup of yesterday’s cold coffee and pour fresh hot coffee over it?
No? Why not?
I’d love to hear your reactions (in the comments) when you first read that question. And then, I’d like to invite you to continue on to this week’s ramblings.
Here’s to a day of new ideas and fresh, hot Java juice ☕️

Ok, so if you wouldn’t pour today’s fresh coffee into yesterday’s cup of leftovers, then why would you go into a new experience with your mind filled with old data or preconceived notions?
It used to take a real commitment to gain knowledge. We needed to find a local school or expert speaker, hope there’s still space, sign up, and go back to the event to attend, often week after week for months. We walked into to these classes with a determination to get all we could out of them. There was no shame in entering a program of study as a total novice, ready to absorb all the knowledge offered.
Today there is so much information available right at our fingertips: on demand virtual courses, live zoom classes, and reams of information with just a few clicks on the keyboard. We already have so much information available, what could one instructor or course possibly teach us that we don’t already know?
We’re too afraid of being a clumsy novice or a “newbie”. We try to know it all before we’ve been taught. When we get set in our beliefs and opinions, we aren’t open to new ideas or different perspectives.
We can’t learn new things if we’re so filled with old things. Each day, and with each new person you meet, empty your cup. Let go of the old to allow for the new. Whether it’s new information or a new way of looking at an old idea, empty your mind and heart and allow newness in.
What I’m Reading This Week
Here are some other ‘stacks that have caught my attention this week. Check them out and subscribe or share if you like what they have to say:
My sound healing mentor taught me ways to use sound and breath to clear emotional residue, e.g. energy that gets clogged in our bodies. Helps us be more available to listen well and receive the present moment.
That said, I will totally drink yesterday’s coffee ☕️😂
I’ve often followed this idea when I travel to a place I’ve never been to before. No preconceived notions, just let me absorb this new environment with an open mind.
